Leisure Plus was launched in January 1997 with the aim of providing people with learning disabilities over the age of 19 the opportunity to participate in recreational and leisure activities of their choice both with their peers and through integration within the wider community.
As well as offering in house run activities across a broad spectrum Leisure Plus aims to provide support for individuals who are seeking participation within community based groups for their chosen hobby/interest both by sourcing contacts and finding volunteers willing to assist its clients with their chosen activity.
All activities are offered at very competitive subsidized prices to enable maximum participation. This is made possible through funding from the Social Services sector and other grant funding along with generous support from facility providers.
Currently Leisure Plus runs weekly drop in sessions including: Trampolining, Badminton, Football, Arts & Crafts, Cooking, Drama workshops and a Coffee morning with a monthly Cinema trip.
Past activities have included Needlecraft, Photography, Basketball, Gardening, Golf, Archery and "Rangers R Us", a work group helping to clear overgrown foot paths across West Berkshire as part of a partnership arrangement with West Berkshire Council.
Experienced and qualified instructors supervise all our activities.
Our football team, Newbury Silver Lions are coached by a highly qualified Football Association coach and take part in tournaments ranging as far a field as Portsmouth.
Introduction of "Active Leisure" days has proved very popular. These are designed to provide the opportunity to participate in a wide range of differing activities on a one off basis across West Berkshire. Activities range from Arts and Crafts, walking, sports days to dancing.
By offering different venues those with transport difficulties have the opportunity to participate without incurring great expense.
A recent addition has been the introduction of "Eli's" Club which operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The club offers a mix of educational and leisure interests with a varied programme. This combined with the opportunity to socially interact with their peers allows members to develop their communication and co - ordination skills through positive learning in a relaxed fun environment.
Leisure Plus also offers an outreach facility for "Homes" enabling them to book Arts & Crafts or Sports sessions for their clients in the home environment delivered by experienced staff.
