West Berkshire Mencap

Making the most of Life

If you would like to support West Berkshire Mencap, make a financial contribution or just be kept up to date with our latest news then please download this form and either post or email it back to us.

Some examples of support we have received include:

Some of our teenage volunteers putting on bands nights for us or persuading their schools to support West Berkshire Mencap.

Large companies have agreed to allow us to use their purchasing power to get better prices for such things as stationery and furniture.  They also donate used goods such as flat screens, furniture and other items.

Donations, not just of money (which is of course always welcome) but also time, auction or raffle prizes.

Sometimes support is about banging the drum for us, letting other people know about our organisation, that we are a local charity dependent on contributions and that we provide a wide range of services for people in West Berkshire.

Personal Thanks

Supporters can help in many different ways.  There are many different volunteering opportunities, from working directly with clients (after being CRB’d) at the Mencap Centre, Link Up, Growing 4 All at Cottismore or on any of our off site projects.  Support can be a one off or ongoing.  We are pretty flexible and terribly appreciative!

Evers House Evening

Once again Evers House at St. Bartholomew’s School have done us proud with their fundraising efforts this year. At a recent house evening Senior Children’s Officer Zoe Dobson and some of our children were presented with a cheque for £4,190. This is a fantastic donation and has continued the support they have given us over the past 10 years bringing the running total to in excess of £32,000. Our sincere thanks must go to head of Evers House Mr. Alan Metcalfe and the children. Evers House also encourage their young people to consider volunteering with our various children’s activities, these volunteers form an important part of our organisation and we would like to thank them as well. Well done EVERS.

Richard Charon dental practice, held an open day on July 1st and they decided, in view of the generosity of the donations of their business friends , that as a practice they would like to make a donation of  £250 to West Berkshire Mencap. This was gratefully received. Richard asked that it be used for children’s services. Many Thanks.

We would like to thank five hardworking staff from Enterprise  Rent-A-Car, South Central, who, as part of their Founding Values, undertook some Community Outreach as a work party at The Mencap Centre on Thursday 22nd September. They very kindly applied wood treatment to our external windows. The five volunteers were: Jonty Cooke, Steve Hair, James Franklin, Lisa Perrin and Alex Bleiker. This was work that desperately needed doing and saved us the expense of getting a professional to do it. The weather was kind and they were able to crack on achieving much more than I expected. Many, many thanks to them all.

Simon, Shane and Caroline are back in the office after their charity Cycle Challenge. Caroline kept a daily diary and has copied some extracts HERE. It makes fascinating reading. Caroline raised in excess of £1500 for us by undertaking this challenge. We are very grateful to her and for all the support that Quintons give us.

Linda, Leila’s PA recently celebrated a “special” birthday. She held a BBQ at her house for friends and family. She requested donations to us rather than presents and received £145 plus a lovely large tea pot for use at Mencap events. Many Thanks

The Coach at Beedon not only has a great menu (try the grazing boards!) it also supports West Berkshire Mencap.  Thank you to The Coach for donating a voucher which will be used as a prize at our next event.  We are very grateful for all local support which goes towards helping people with learning disabilities get more out of life.

Bayer plc in Newbury recently undertook an Eco Challenge and we were lucky enough to be one of their chosen charities. We were presented with a cheque for £750 at their headquarters. Many thanks for their efforts and kind donation.

Newbury & Reading Wargames Society play a range of games covering all genres, periods, scales and rules In addition to running weekly club sessions in both Newbury & Reading and wargames Sundays in Hermitage, the club organises A Call to Arms in February and the major Colours show in September.  Each year they donate their proceeds to us, this year it amounted to £2570 which is a fantastic amount and a new record. It is greatly appreciated.

New Born Lambs

We would like to thank Adrian and Elizabeth Dray for their donation to West Berkshire Mencap. They organised a visit to Folly Farm where Jane and David Carlisle played host to the children and parents of All Saints Church West Ilsley. They were able to see the new lambs and also have tea and homemade cakes. They had lovely weather and thoroughly enjoyed the whole event, they held a collection on the day and passed the proceeds to us. Thanks are extended to Jane and David as well for hosting the event and also for their support in many other ways.

We would like to express our thanks to the Peter Baker Foundation for their recent grant to West Berkshire Mencap, this will help towards the continuation of our mother and toddler group, “Bubble Club” held on Wednesday mornings at the centre.
