Bubble Club is often a parent’s first point of call when they first realise that their child may have a learning disability. Here they get support from other parents and carers as well as advice from one of our Family Advisors who can help them in many different ways including advice on benefits and respite.
Once a child has started at Bubble Club they have a route of many different services to be involved with including playschemes, after school clubs, holidays etc. when they reach adulthood they can come along to one of the finest Gateway Award groups in the country. Gateway Award is based on the Duke of Edinburgh award and we are incredibly proud of the participants as they gain their bronze, silver and gold awards, a process which can take quite a few years. Gateway Club, which is held at the Mencap Centre every week, is also very popular and a great meeting place for people with learning disabilities to enjoy their evening with friends. Other leisure activities, run by Leisure Plus, include outreach work, projects in the community, independent living skills, drama, sports, cinema trips and many more.
Link Up is a unique work experience. We provide a real work environment for adults with learning disabilities to enable them to progress onto work experience placement or work. We develop individual trainee’s potential within a sheltered workskills unit which is based in a commercial business park. A variety of accredited courses are offered alongside the work experience and there is an opportunity to work with other organisations within the Link Up building as well as progressing on to other businesses locally. Growing4All is a horticultural project run in North Hampshire which provides training and work experiences. |

West Berkshire Mencap exists to provide high quality services for people with learning disabilities, their families, carers and professionals. We have been in existence for over 50 years and run many different schemes. We listen to our users and are able to tailor services flexibly and speedily to ensure that the people that we support are able to get the services they need or want.
