The sensory room was built in 1999 and has been a well used addition to the centre. It has recently been relocated to our new extension. The sensory room is a calm tranquil room filled with bubble tubes, fibre optics ultra violet lights and wifi technology so that the clients can control the environment such as colour and number of lights on. The sensory room is used as a source for relaxation or for stimulation depending on the clients needs. |

We also have a fully equipped playground which was built in 1999. The playground includes a wheelchair accessible swing and roundabout, the usual climbing frames and slides and some bucket seat swings for children that require extra support to use the swing. The playground is well used throughout the year by all our clients. |

The Sensory garden was developed in 2006 by a team of Mencap staff and volunteers. It provides a tranquil place to sit as well as providing plenty of opportunity to explore. There is a large sandpit to play in as well as a drum and a xylophone. The raised borders are filled with plants to smell and taste as well as wind chimes and bird boxes. The garden is well used by all our clients and is maintained on a weekly basis by adults with a learning disability. |

The soft play room is a brand new room built in 2008, the room is fully padded and contains a ball pool, tunnel and slide This will be a huge benefit to the children who attend. It will enable them to burn off their excess energy in a completely safe environment, it will provide the facility to encourage creative, emotional and fantasy play as well as exploration, movement and social interaction. It will also greatly encourage physical development by walking up the steps, crawling and balancing in complete safety. |
